Newcastle-under-Lyme sits just west of Stoke-on-Trent, close enough to share a conurbation with the six towns but distinct enough to have kept its own identity as a market town with a genuine centre, a historic street pattern and a character all of its own. We cover the whole borough regularly, from the town centre itself out through Clayton, Westlands, Wolstanton, Silverdale and Chesterton, and each of those areas asks for something slightly different when it comes to windows and doors.

The town centre and the older streets close to it hold a good number of Victorian and early twentieth-century terraces and townhouses, some with genuinely fine period detailing on the frontage. Sash windows and panelled doors are still common here, and owners are often torn between wanting the character preserved and wanting a house that does not lose heat through every joint the moment autumn arrives. We fit replacement sashes and slimline casements that keep the proportions right while bringing the performance up to modern standards, and where a property sits within a conservation area we work to what the designation actually requires rather than guessing.

Clayton and Westlands, to the south of the town, are largely interwar and post-war suburbs: solid 1930s semis with bay windows, along with later 1950s and 60s infill, built for a generation of families moving slightly out from the town centre. These are comfortable, well-built houses, but original steel windows and early uPVC replacements in this belt are now old enough that draughts, condensation and stiff opening mechanisms are the norm rather than the exception. Westlands in particular has some larger detached and semi-detached properties where French doors onto the garden are popular additions, and we fit these regularly to match the existing brickwork and window style rather than as an obvious bolt-on.

Wolstanton, to the north of the town centre, mixes older terraced streets close to the high street with newer estate development further out, including more recent builds where the windows are still original to construction but starting to reach the point where seals and hardware need attention. Silverdale, further west again, has a different character still: a former mining community with a good deal of council-built and ex-council housing from the mid-twentieth century, much of it now privately owned and upgraded piecemeal over the decades, so it is common to find one window style on the ground floor and another upstairs from a previous partial replacement.

Chesterton sits on notably higher ground than much of the surrounding area, and that exposure is something we factor into every specification there. Wind-driven rain and a harder winter climate than the sheltered valley streets closer to Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre mean drainage detailing and weatherseal quality matter more on these exposed streets, and a window that performs fine in Clayton can struggle on Chesterton's more open aspect if it is not specified with that in mind.
