Local coverage
A railway town with several distinct generations of housing
Crewe grew up around its junction, and the town's housing stock still tells that story street by street. Close to the station and around Edleston Road, Gresty Road and the older grid running off Nantwich Road, you find dense Victorian railway-worker terraces: narrow-fronted, two-up two-down and three-bed properties built quickly and cheaply for the workforce that kept the sheds and sidings running. Many still have their original sash-style proportions even where the timber sashes themselves were swapped for uPVC decades ago, and the narrow bay fronts and shallow front gardens mean any replacement frame has to sit correctly in a reveal that was never generous to begin with.
Move out from the centre and the housing changes generation by generation. The interwar semis around Wistaston Road and West Street have the bay windows and wider plots typical of 1920s and 1930s council and private building, while the substantial post-war council estates (Ramsbottom Street, the Gresty Brook area, and the large estates towards Wistaston and Leighton) bring flat-fronted semis and short terraces with metal-framed originals long since replaced, usually more than once. Crewe's newer developments, particularly around Shavington, Wistaston and the sites off the A5020, add a further layer again: modern timber-look casements, larger openings and bi-fold doors onto rear gardens that simply did not exist on the older stock.
What ties all of this together is the town's setting. Crewe sits on the flat, open Cheshire plain with very little in the way of high ground to break the weather. Wind gets a clean run at the town from several directions, driving rain hard against west and south-facing elevations and putting real pressure on seals, cills and drainage that a more sheltered street elsewhere might not face. We see the consequences regularly: water finding its way past a tired seal on an exposed gable, a badly packed frame working loose faster than it should because the wind load on it is genuinely higher than average, and hardware wearing out sooner on doors that take a battering every time the weather comes from the west.
Cheshire's water hardness is another local factor that residents notice more than they might expect. Hard water leaves deposits on glass and hardware that accelerate the look of wear even where the frame itself is sound, so a specification that is easy to keep clean and that uses hardware genuinely rated for the exposure it will see matters more here than in a sheltered inland town. We take all of this into account at survey stage rather than treating Crewe as generic: the right frame for a terrace on Gresty Road is not automatically right for a bungalow on the edge of Wistaston, and we price and specify each job on the property in front of us.
Working across Crewe day to day also means we are familiar with the practical side of the town: on-street parking around the terraces, the layout of the newer cul-de-sac estates, and the mix of freehold owners and long-term tenants who call us. Whichever part of Crewe you are in (close to the town centre, out towards Shavington, or on one of the post-war estates) the survey and the standard of fitting are the same.
Housing mix
Victorian railway terraces near the centre, interwar semis, large post-war council estates and newer developments towards Shavington and Wistaston.
Exposure
Flat, open Cheshire plain with little shelter, so wind-driven rain and gusting put real demand on seals, drainage and hardware.
Water
Cheshire's hard water leaves deposits on glass and fittings faster than in soft-water areas, so easy-clean specification and durable hardware matter.
Frontages
Many terraces retain sash-style proportions and narrow bay fronts, so frames need to sit correctly within older, less generous reveals.
What we fit here
Our services, applied to Crewe's housing stock
Every service below is delivered the same way in Crewe as anywhere else we work: surveyed, measured individually and fitted to the tolerance the opening demands.

Window Installations & Replacement
From narrow-fronted terraces near the station to wider interwar semis on Wistaston Road, we measure each opening individually so the new frame fills the reveal correctly rather than being packed and papered over.

uPVC Windows & Doors Installations
uPVC suits the bulk of Crewe's stock well: low maintenance for terraced streets with little time for repainting, and multi-chambered profiles that stand up to the wind Crewe's flat position exposes it to.

Patio & French Doors
Rear extensions on the post-war estates and newer builds around Shavington often call for patio or French doors onto the garden; we specify hardware rated for the exposure a west-facing rear elevation actually sees.

Composite Door Installation
A composite front door holds its shape well on the terraces around Gresty Road and Nantwich Road, where doors take daily use and sit close to the street with limited weather protection from a porch.

Double Glazing Repairs & Replacements
Misted units and worn hardware are common on Crewe's older uPVC installations from the 1990s and early 2000s; we replace failed units and adjust hardware without needing to replace a sound frame.

Energy Efficient A-Rated Windows
A-rated glazing makes a genuine difference on Crewe's older terraces, where solid walls and smaller rooms lose heat fast through original single-glazed or early double-glazed units.

Glass Replacements
From a cracked pane on a terrace to a full sealed unit replacement on a bay front, we can usually source and fit standard glass within days once we have measured the opening.

Fascias, Soffits & Guttering
Crewe's exposed position means guttering and fascias take a real beating from wind-driven rain; we replace and align roofline systems so water is carried away rather than running down the wall.

Porch & Conservatory Infills
Older porches on Victorian terraces and tired conservatories on 1970s and 80s estate houses are common infill projects, bringing an unused space back into proper year-round use.

Why Crewe households choose us
We are based a short, direct run from Crewe along the A500 and A5020, which means surveys can usually be booked within days rather than weeks, and follow-up visits do not involve a long cross-county trip.
Crewe's mixed housing stock rewards a fitter who actually looks at the property rather than quoting a standard package. We have fitted terraces near the station, semis on the interwar estates, and new-build openings on the Shavington developments, and we price each on its own survey.

Local property conditions
Problems we see regularly on Crewe properties
Crewe's exposure and its mix of building ages create a fairly predictable set of issues, and knowing which is which helps at survey stage.
Wind-driven rain finding weak seals
On the more exposed elevations, often west- or south-facing gables on estates towards Wistaston and Leighton, perished seals or a slightly dropped sash let rain in during driving weather even where the frame looks fine on a dry day. We check seals and hardware alignment as standard on every survey.
Narrow terrace reveals fitted with the wrong size frame
Some older replacements on the Victorian terraces near the centre were fitted slightly undersized and packed out with excess sealant to fill the gap. It looks tidy for a while but fails early. We measure each reveal individually and specify a frame that actually fits it.
Hardware worn by exposure and hard water
Handles, hinges and multi-point locking gear on more exposed properties wear faster in Crewe than in sheltered towns, and hard water deposits can make the wear look worse than it is. We can often service and adjust hardware rather than replace a sound frame outright.
Tired conservatories and porches on post-war and 1970s stock
Many of Crewe's post-war and 1970s-80s estate properties have an original porch or conservatory that has become cold, draughty or unusable. A properly specified infill or replacement brings the space back without needing an extension.

Do you cover Crewe?+
Yes. Crewe is one of the towns we cover regularly as part of our Staffordshire and Cheshire coverage area, from the terraces near the station to the estates towards Shavington and Wistaston.
How quickly can you get to Crewe?+
We are a short, direct drive from Crewe along the A500 and A5020, and we can usually book a survey within days of your enquiry.
How much do windows cost in Crewe?+
There is no set list price. Cost depends on the number of openings, sizes, glass specification and finish, so we survey the property, measure every opening and put a full price in writing with nothing added later.
Do you handle urgent or broken glass in Crewe?+
Yes, within our opening hours of Monday to Friday 9am-5pm and Saturday 10am-3pm. We can board up or make safe a broken pane and arrange a replacement as quickly as opening hours and glass availability allow. We do not offer a 24/7 emergency service.
Can you match new windows to a Victorian terrace in Crewe?+
In most cases, yes. We can specify frames with sash-style proportions and glazing bar layouts that suit the narrow bay fronts common on Crewe's older terraced streets.
Do you fit windows on the newer developments near Shavington?+
Yes. Newer builds around Shavington and the A5020 developments typically take larger, modern openings and bi-fold or patio doors, which we survey and fit the same way as any other property.
Is the survey free?+
Yes. The survey and written quotation are free with no obligation, whether you are in the town centre, on one of the post-war estates, or on a newer development at the edge of Crewe.
What guarantee do I get on work in Crewe?+
Every installation carries a 10-year insurance backed guarantee and is completed under Assure certification for Building Regulations compliance, regardless of which part of Crewe you are in.
Do you replace guttering and fascias in Crewe?+
Yes. Crewe's exposed position on the Cheshire plain means roofline systems take heavy wear, and we replace fascias, soffits and guttering as a standalone job or alongside window and door work.
Can you fix misted double glazing in Crewe without replacing the whole frame?+
Usually, yes. If the frame itself is sound we can replace just the failed sealed unit, which is common on Crewe properties fitted with uPVC in the 1990s and early 2000s.
